The Apple Trail driving tour highlights the Shenandoah Valley’s apple growing industry. It begins at the Winchester-Frederick County Visitor Center, where a brochure and CD are available. The leisurely drive follows several scenic roads throughout western Frederick County.
Other pleasant driving routes in Frederick County include County Roads 600 and 608. They lie west of Winchester and can be reached from Route 50.
Virginia Route 43, and U.S. Routes 11 and 340 follow the Shenandoah Valley from one end to the other. These north-to-south routes, which cross the region’s creeks and rivers, lead to the Valley’s towns and pass through rural landscapes that offer views of farmland and mountain scenery.
Directions to the Visitor Center:
From I-81, take Exit 313 west. Follow Route 50 West past Shenandoah University toward Winchester. In 0.2 miles, turn right onto Pleasant Valley Road to reach the Visitor Center.
