Shenandoah University’s Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy is expanding its Pharm.D. program to include an online hybrid pathway that offers flexible engagement options and “on-demand” learning for students in its four-year Pharm.D. program. The new online hybrid pathway will welcome its first students in Fall 2024.
Shenandoah is one of only 10 schools in the nation to offer distance/online Pharm.D. pathways and was the first School of Pharmacy to offer an online Pharm.D. option through its nontraditional program.

For those who want to learn in Winchester, an in-person pathway will also continue to be offered at Shenandoah’s Health Professions Building on the campus of Valley Health’s Winchester Medical Center.
This new online hybrid pathway for the four-year Pharm.D. will provide greater flexibility for students who live outside of Shenandoah’s home base in Winchester, Virginia. Students in this program can save money because they won’t need to move to Winchester to study, and will come to Shenandoah, which is within driving distance of many of the East Coast’s largest metro areas, for 3-5 days twice a semester. Online pathway students are also eligible for the same scholarships and aid offered to in-person students, as well as have access to the same clinical rotation sites. Both the online hybrid and in-person pharmacy pathways do not require a bachelor’s degree for admission. However, students must have earned 59 credits of prerequisites to be considered for admission. These prerequisites can be found at su.edu. The application deadline for both pathways is June 1.
The creation of this online hybrid pathway is a continuation of the School of Pharmacy’s long-standing tradition of providing innovative options to meet the needs of a growing, constantly evolving field, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics/BLS.
Shenandoah also offers several dual degrees that reflect the myriad ways pharmacists practice, including a Pharm.D./Master of Business Administration; Pharm.D./M.S. in Pharmacogenomics & Personalized Medicine; and Pharm.D./Master of Public Health. Over 35% of Shenandoah’s pharmacy students are enrolled in a dual degree program, and all these dual degree programs are open to students in the online hybrid pathway as well.
