Jazz & Commercial Music
The Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Jazz Sextet culminates a day of masterclasses and clinics for regional high school students, with a performance of high-energy Latin jazz that defies expectations. Hailed for its inventive programming of traditional Afro-Peruvian music, the ensemble stands out in the field of Latin jazz artists. Alegría, who has been praised for his ability to blend folkloric Afro-Peruvian rhythms with jazz and other musical genres, is regarded for his electrifying live performances that are both educational and entertaining. The New York Times hails, “the Sextet knows its mission well and has the execution down to a science.”
This performance is presented by the Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz & Commercial Music program in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
