Reflections: Invited Choreographers Showcase
Reflections features works by invited guest artist choreographers Kimberly Field, Ilana Goldman and Lucinda Childs, an internationally acclaimed artist revered for her collaborations with Philip Glass, Sol LeWitt, Andy Warhol, Wendy Whelan and Robert Wilson.
Ilana Goldman premieres a new work for six women inspired by, and featuring, Bach’s unaccompanied cello suites and the artwork of Kandinsky, Severini and Boccioni. Solo, duet, trio and ensemble sections showcase the dancers’ individual talents and personalities, creating a rich vocabulary of movement.
Kim Field’s “Verve Remixed” pays homage to jazz pioneers while weaving a contemporary thread throughout. Timeless tracks, remixed by contemporary electronic music producers and DJs, adds an exciting and dynamic spin to the timeless sounds and choreography of classic jazz styles.
Award-winning choreographer Lucinda Childs is internationally renowned for her post-minimalist movements. Her work “Concerto,” which premiered in Portugal in 1993, draws inspiration from Henryk Górecki’s Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings. Childs’ choreography revels in the work’s variations in intensity and baroque-like melodies; and is hailed as “nine minutes of absolute rigour, a kind of mini masterpiece to record in the choreographic diaries of the 20th century.” (Dominique Frétard, Le Monde, November 1993).
