ABOUT NATIONAL JAZZ WORKSHOP
The National Jazz Workshop (NJW) sets a new standard of excellence for students, educators and performers who are serious about learning and mastering the language of the definitive American art form, Jazz. Held on the campus of Shenandoah University, NJW offers an intensive, fully comprehensive curriculum for jazz studies to include improvisation, big band and small-group performance, composition, arranging, music recording and production, and instrumental masterclasses. This workshop is inspired by the legendary Stan Kenton Jazz Camp model, first held in 1959 at Indiana University, where, as Kenton would say, students would “take a bath in jazz.”
