“I’ve been a nurse for 4 months in a BUSY 28 bed ICU. I will be off orientation very soon, and all I can say is thank you to my preceptor for pushing me during my preceptorship because I wouldn’t have been prepared for this job without her. One thing I learned during my preceptorship is the importance of adapting to change quickly. Things can change in a matter of seconds in the ICU, so it’s important to know how to handle the situation rather than reacting.
When I graduated in December I never imagined starting my nursing career during a pandemic. At SU the professors taught me to never give up during challenging circumstances. They taught me to keep fighting for my patients, even if nobody wants to listen. I would not be the nurse I am today without the guidance and the education from the SU nursing faculty.”
