T
he Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation has supported the Shenandoah University School of Nursing since 1982 by offering nursing student scholarships.
Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans (1892-1953) was a philanthropist and businesswoman whose philosophy was summed up in a quote found in her personal scrapbook: “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” The legacy of Lettie Pate Whitehead continues to inspire students and faculty.
Over $5.6 million has been awarded since 2001, with over 880 Shenandoah University students benefiting from these need-based funds and contributing to the next generation of nurses.
Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons, Ph.D. and two nursing students residing in Virginia express their gratitude to the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation.
