Who can be a member of the marching band?
Any Shenandoah University student that is registered for classes the semester of participation.
Will I have time to be in the marching band?
Yes! This has been proven by the large number of marching band students across the U.S. that have graduated with highly competitive GPAs in a vast array of degree focuses.

What if I do not have any marching experience?
Not a problem! We teach you everything you need to know during band camp.
Do I have to be a music major to join?
You do not have to be a music major to join. Every Shenandoah University student is encouraged to audition.
How do I audition?
Audition information for each section is available on the marching band website. Auditions are done by video submission in an effort to give everyone an equal opportunity to apply. If you are not able to do an audition by video, email the director of athletic bands for other options at sevans1@su.edu.
What if I do not own a marching instrument?
Not a problem! We will provide each student with an instrument.
What do I do if I am interested in a leadership position?
Currently, only previous members of the Marching Band are eligible for leadership positions.

When is band camp?
Band camp takes place August 12-23, 2024.
Pre camp takes place August 9-11. Pre camp is for the Leadership Team, Drumline, and Color Guard.
What does the fall band camp schedule look like?
Marching band camp is where we begin our journey toward building community and promoting the spirit of the university. We work together to prepare for the season by learning, unifying, and strengthening all aspects of our performances. Here is an example of what the band camp schedule looks like.
When is rehearsal?
Rehearsal takes place weekly on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 pm. Additional rehearsals could take place on Fridays from 7-9 pm during performance weeks as needed.
Where is rehearsal?
Rehearsal takes place at a number of locations on the Shenandoah University campus. These locations include Vaden Campus Commons, Aikens Field, Shentel Stadium, and the Wilkins Athletics and Events Center.
Where do we perform?
We will perform at all SU home games, a few parades, and other events on or near campus.
Is there a cost to join?
No, there is no cost to join.
Do students receive scholarships to participate?
Yes! Every student that participates in marching band and upholds the eligibility requirements, will receive up to $2,000 in scholarship funding.
Is marching band a class?
Yes, marching band is a class. Members will register for (ATHB-101) and receive 2 elective credits. You do not have to be in the conservatory to join the marching band.
Does marching band fulfill ensemble requirements?
No, marching band does not fulfill Conservatory ensemble requirements.
How do I join?
If you are interested in joining, submit an interest form. Once you are accepted to the university, and auditions become available, you can submit a video audition/application through our website.
