On Monday, March 13, we traveled to the Amigo School which is an inclusive secondary school in Wroclaw. The school was founded 20 years ago with the idea that typical and atypical students would study together. The children played the piano and sang to us, and put on a play called Little Red Riding Hood, Nd another play called Once Upon a Time all in English!
The teachers told of us that they teach their students how to relax, speak in public, and grow in confidence. The teachers also explained that they take the students from where they are and work on their strengths and try to minimize their weaknesses. They also use the expression “we do not teach turtles to fly”. This means they believe that children should not be taught things that are impossible to learn, but it is important to get to know your students as learners and help them achieve to the best of their abilities.
