Students in the esports program will make their official broadcast debut this Tuesday, Sept. 29, during two Rocket League matches against Roanoke College and West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Viewers can tune into the broadcast on Shenandoah’s twitch or youtube pages starting around 7:45 p.m. The broadcast takes place in the new esports arena on campus.
We want to get the word out to get people to tune in and watch the broadcast. We are one of a very few schools with the ability to run a production like this, and so we are trying to build a following and get community support.”
Director of Esports Joey Gawrysiak, Ph.D.
While other Shenandoah competitive teams have had to postpone or cancel competition, the esports varsity team is ramping up for a full slate of games.
The regular esports season begins Tuesday and runs until mid-November. The university will play weekly matches against other member schools in the National Association of Collegiate Esports, or NACE.
Cheer on the Hornets as they compete in:
- Overwatch on Mondays and Thursdays
- Rocket League on Tuesdays
- Valorant (a new game for the university) on Wednesdays
- Overwatch on Thursdays
- Smash Brothers on Fridays
Gawrysiak said there are a number of first-year students starting on the “A” teams this year and that all teams look improved.
