Shenandoah University is a member of the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), a global network of 300 universities. This partnership allows students to study for a full semester or year at other member campuses abroad. By working closely with their Academic Advisors and the Education Abroad Advisor, students can take advantage of the opportunities to take general education and major classes taught in English abroad and to receive credit at their home institution.
Shenandoah University also maintains direct partnerships with several universities around the world. These relationships allow students from SU to study abroad as exchange students and students from these universities to study at SU.

Semester Abroad
In semester abroad programs, your classes for that semester are conducted abroad and you live in your destination city for the entire semester. A semester abroad is perfect for students who want to test the waters of studying abroad. If you aren’t ready for the full commitment of an entire year, but you still want a complete, enriched experience, then a semester program might be what you are looking for.

Short Term Exchange Programs
There are occasionally opportunities to participate in a short-term exchange program with a partner university. These programs generally take place during the winter, spring, or summer breaks. Perfect for students who want to get a taste of living abroad for a week or two. Students are also able to earn three credits towards their degree. Students are registered and billed at Shenandoah University for the short course which then takes place at the partner university. The partner university waives tuition.
This two-week exchange program with SU partner university Audencia in France provides an experience of a lifetime while completing undergraduate or graduate credit hours.

Year Abroad
Academic year programs allow students spend a full academic year immersed in another culture and language! All of your classes for that academic year are conducted abroad and you live and work as though you have truly relocated your education to that country. These programs are ideal for students who are confident in their ability to thrive while living abroad and want to commit to an eight to nine month program. If that length of time seems a bit daunting, a semester abroad program may be a better fit for you.

Summer Study Abroad
There are many opportunities to independently study, travel, volunteer and intern abroad during the summer. Students are responsible to research and choose a program that best fits their curricular needs and to get pre-approval through a signed Permission to Study Abroad Form from their advisor prior to departure in order to guarantee that credits will transfer back to Shenandoah. While Shenandoah University does not administer these summer programs, SU is part of the ISEP summer program network. These programs are perfect for students who want to have an abroad experience, but may be in a very structured major or fast-track program and are unable to be abroad for a semester or year.

Study Abroad Tuition & Affordability
In order to give all students access to study abroad, SU has a home tuition model for all SU partner programs. Students studying abroad for SU credit are billed the SU comprehensive fee (tuition, room and board, technology fee, IM Learning fee, Student Services fee). SU ensures that tuition, room and board expenses are not charged to the student by the study abroad program.
