Bachelor of Science in Nursing

LPN-BSN Track

Developed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who wish to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The track can be completed in four semesters of full-time study if general education requirements are met prior to beginning nursing classes. A part-time plan is also available. Advanced placement is awarded for those who pass standardized tests and meet admission requirements. This track is offered only at the Leesburg campus.

LPNs who successfully pass designated National League for Nursing standardized tests may receive up to 35 credits and advanced placement in the Nursing curriculum. The Division of Nursing also offers specialized courses in reflections on the art of nursing.

This track is held at Shenandoah University's Northern Virginia Campus, which is located at 44160 Scholar Plaza Suite100, Leesburg, Virginia 20176.

All students admitted to Nursing programs are required to complete the following prior to the start of classes:

  • Submit evidence of specific immunizations as required by the Wilkins Wellness Center.
  • Submit proof of TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis).
  • Submit proof of PPD (Tuberculosis) which is to be renewed annually.
  • Submit Proof of Health Insurance.
  • Submit evidence of generally good physically and mental health.
  • Complete a criminal background check through OneSource.
  • Students should expect to submit to random drug testing required by clinical practice sites.
  • Submit evidence of current Health Care Provider CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Hold a current Virginia license to practice practical nursing.

Successfully pass the National League for Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam (NLNACE). LPN-RN (scoring in the 50th percentile or above or making a decision score of 78 or better) to receive credit for the following courses:

  • Students may only take the NLN ACE LPN-RN twice. If unsuccessful following a second attempt, the student will be required to take HP 272 and all 100 and 200 level nursing courses.
  • Optional: Students may choose to take the National League for Nursing (NLN) Pharmacology test (passing score in the 50th percentile or above to receive credit for the following course: HP283 Pharmacotherapy (3 credits).
  • Students are responsible for all testing fees.
