Women’s Soccer Team Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity during Fall Break

STEPHENS CITY, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team took advantage of the school's annual fall break to give back to the community all day Tuesday with its annual participation in a Habitat for Humanity home build.

In each of the three seasons that Elizabeth Pike has been the head coach of the women's soccer team, Pike has had her women spend a day giving back to the Winchester/Frederick County community.

"This is a great project for our team to be a part of. When the house is complete, we are going to get to come back for a ceremony with the owners."

This year, the women took the day Tuesday (the second day of a two-day fall break) to participate in Winchester/Frederick County Habitat for Humanity home build in Stephens City.

The home, which is being built exclusively by women, is one of five that Habitat is building in Stephens City this year. Two of the homes are already completed and the home that the Hornets helped with on Tuesday is slated for a single mother and her two children.

"This is a great project for our team to be a part of," Pike said. "I got involved with Habitat through our Spiritual Life office on campus and they recommended this project.

"The team is doing all drywall work today and they are going to put in eight hours of work. When the house is complete, we are going to get to come back for a ceremony with the owners."

SU is 6-6-2 this season under Pike and returns to action Wednesday night at 6 with a non-league home game against Wesley College.
